Safety Tips

Change all your locks when you move into a new house

Make your house appear to be occupied at all times. Use timers for lights and radios when you are not home and have someone look after your newspapers.

Don't leave notes for service people or family members on the door as it will welcome burglars!

Make sure you lock your doors, even if it is for a short time. Many burglars just walk in.

If you lose or misplace your keys, change your locks immediately.

Burglarise yourself! This will allow you to discover weaknesses in your security system.

If your entrance is dark, install lighting as burglars don't want to be seen trying to enter a door.

A professional burglar will be looking for a way to disconnect your security system. Make sure that all your wiring is hidden/concealed.

Keep your tools safe. Paint or mark the handles-thieves will avoid these items!

If someone comes to your door asking to use your phone, keep the door locked and make the call for them.

A burglar can pry through rot. Replace rotted door frames with new, solid wood.

Too much space between the door and the frame is an invitation for a Burglar to use a jimmy and get in. Replace your door or have it reinforced.
